Riitta Peirone
Bio
Riitta Peirone graduated from
the Interpretative Illustration Program at Sheridan College
of Art and Design in Oakville, Ontario and took courses in
drawing and painting at the Ontario College of Art. She worked
in Toronto as a graphic artist, mainly in educational publishing,
She moved to Vancouver in 1986 and freelanced as a graphic
artist. She also worked at Cossette Communications and McKim
Advertising.
She is an Associate member of the Canadian Institute
of Portrait Artists. Riitta had two portraits in the 2006 National
Show at the Red Deer and District Art Gallery and two portraits
in the 2008 Open Portrait Show in Calgary. One of these pieces
won an award for Excellence in Portraiture in Combined Media.
Over the years she has shown with the BC Chapter of CIPA at
the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Place des Artes, Ferry Building
and New Westminster Library.
In 2002, Riitta became a member
of the Federation of Canadian Artists and has exhibited in
many juried shows at the FCA Gallery on Granville Island. She
has participated in many additional group shows with the Ferry
Building Gallery, Silk Purse Gallery, Cityscape Gallery and
Seymour Art Gallery, as well as a solo show at the Silk Purse
Gallery in April 2006.
Riitta’s work in pastels, watercolours,
acrylics and oils reflect the natural surroundings of her home
near the Capilano River, as well as her interest in portraits
and figurative work.
