Nicola Morgan
Bio
I have been an artist for most of my conscious life.
I was born on Vancouver Island on the West Coast of British
Columbia, Canada. I graduated from the Painting Department
at Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver and
have gone on to exhibit my work in many shows around the
city.
I have also taught children's art classes for a variety
of organizations such as Arts Umbrella, Richmond Arts Centre
and the Vancouver School Board.
I worked for ten years as a children's author/illustrator,
publishing a total of five books with Oxford Canada and Fitz
Henry and Whiteside. Some of my titles include: Temper Temper,
Once in a Blue Moon and Louis and the Night Sky.
I have now returned to life as a studio painter. My experiences
with children and the artwork that they produce have influenced
the way I paint and continue to be a strong presence in my
paintings. I approach my work with a spontaneous energy,
working through themes of colour and images. I explore various
possibilities until the canvas, the paint and I come to a
mutual agreement. In short: I never really know what is going
to transpire!
I live and work on the North Shore of Vancouver, British
Columbia. I am married with three children, two dogs and
one cat. (Some people love to know this kind of stuff). I
am rediscovering traveling and the excitement it brings to
my paintings.
Presently I am not represented by any commercial galleries,
but I do have showings of my work periodically.
