Dave Benning
Bio
Dave Benning was born and raised in the UK, youngest of
4 to parents from Punjab, India.
Being the youngest, Dave
was heavily influenced by the music listened to by his older
siblings. Artists such as Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, and
other pioneers of Rock were a stable part of growing up.
Studying art throughout school and college he followed a
career in Graphic Design and worked in the industry for a
number of years in silk screening. Taking a leave from the
Graphic world, Dave took an extensive trip across India and
Nepal, and on his return steered away from the graphic design
business and started to experiment with painting portrait
pieces.
Working with watercolors he eventually evolved into
using acrylics and here he stayed quite happy with the versatility
of the medium. From listening to the music and watching sports,
Dave has taken this passion and has been painting iconic
figures, "In the game..." as he refers to it. "I
like to paint Musicians and Athletes doing what they do best...
performing."
He wants the viewer to be able to hear
the sound of Miles Davis playing, and catch the power of
Tiger Woods' swing.
Dave now paints subjects he really enjoys and hopes that
it comes out in his work. He is currently the exclusive artist
for Long & McQuade Music downtown on Terminal Ave, Vancouver
and also for Lickerish Lounge on Davie and Hornby. Also very
happy and proud to help out such great charities like Canuck
Place and Celebs for Kids.
