Brian Romer
Bio
Brian Romer was born in Vancouver and began painting at
a very young age. Brian’s youthful artistic experiences were
influenced heavily by abstract expressionism. In his teens
he experimented with various styles and techniques which
kept him constantly challenged. Brian has had no formal art
training.
Later, Brian decided to forgo his love of painting for
a time to attend the University of Oregon, where he received
a Master’s degree in Business. Subsequently, he lived and
worked in Montreal, New York, Calgary, and Edmonton before
returning to the west coast in the seventies.
Time has mellowed Brian, and his abstracts have gradually
become more and more representational in an attempt to capture
the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Trips to France
have inspired him to paint rolling hills, vineyards, and
quaint villages of red-tiled roofs, a notable departure from
his west coast style of landscapes.
Brian’s paintings have been shown in Vancouver galleries
and his work is held in collections both locally and internationally.
Calona Vineyards selected one of Brian’s paintings from several
hundred submissions from across Canada for the label of the
Artist Series VQA Reserve, 2001 Riesling; and have more recently
selected another of his works for the 2003 Pinot Gris.
Brian currently paints in his Sunshine Coast home studio,
from his West Vancouver pied a terre, and whenever possible,
“en plein air”.
